Indie Pop Duo Tree Giants

TREE GIANTS

As a hybrid production-vocal duo, Oklahoma City’s Daniel Chrisman and Israel Lee—collectively known as Tree Giants—has largely built a name for themselves in the studio, doing the behind-the-scenes work for hip-hop and R&B artists seeking an added electronic/dream-pop vibe to their tracks. This work has garnered Tree Giants a stellar reputation amongst their industry peers. That said, when time has allotted, the pair has sought to consistently release their own original material, including the latest single “Better Together,” the lead single to their as-yet-untitled upcoming EP.

JUICYPEAR

The soul of Emily King + Pharrell; the vibe of The Cardigans + Daft Punk; and the style of FutureSex/LoveSounds-era Justin Timberlake + Dua Lipa just crashed your rollerskating party. From now on, this fresh, SoCal-made hybrid will be known as JUICYPEAR.

Did the name catch you totally off guard? No worries. It actually did the same thing for the artists who came up with it in the first place. “The story behind Juicy Pear is, at first, it was a complete joke,” laughs Jasmine Mayeda, one half of the duo that she’s in along with her husband, Jacob. “Jacob and I were thinking of starting a band and he joked that it would be funny to write slow R&B love jams and call ourselves ‘Juicy Pear’ because, not only is it a hilarious pun—because we are a duo; we’re a ‘pair... pear’—but because he knew I would never ever go for that name. But after jokingly sharing it with our producers and friends they were like ‘WE LOVE IT!’”

You’ve gotta admit that it is mad catchy. Plus, pears have a lot of cool symbolism to them. They signify wisdom and health. Fertility (which is simply the ability to produce). Inner peace. Affection. Comfort. It’s also what any true music lover wants to feel every time they jump in their car for a drive with the windows down, wind in the hair and zero worries. This sentiment is confirmed as Jasmine shares what she and Jacob hope new and loyal fans alike will do with every track. “I hope listeners become fans of the smooth tones which feel like sunset hues to me—you know, just feeling relaxed and good while listening. I hope that when they listen, they feel relief…like everything is gonna be OK.”

Here’s the thing. If you’ve ever literally bit into a juicy pear before, you get exactly where Jasmine is coming from. Well, consider this to be a big ole’ ripe pear for your soul. Dig in. Chill out. Enjoy. (In that order.)
